The aim of the chapter is to improve the employability of students at the University of Leeds within the Mining and exploration sector. The Chapter was established in 2010, and has rapidly expanded to its current membership of around fifty.

Each year the Chapter runs a lecture program of invited speakers form industry and academia. In addition we have a field trip program which builds upon the core field experience of the Geological Sciences Degree.

 Upcoming Events:

Saturday 2nd March: Leicester’s Student Chapter Annual Symposium

The day will feature a range of talks by international speakers, and interactive, topical workshops. Confirmed speakers include Richard Scrivener (Wolf Minerals), Ian Cope (ArcelorMittal) and Andrew Bloodworth (BGS).

This is a great event to learn about a very relevant topic within the industry, meet others from different chapters around the UK and possibly representatives from the industry, and it is great to put on your CV.

You must register ASAP by sending an email to leicestersymposium2013@gmail.com

Monday 11th March 5-7pm: Employability Talk and Chapter AGM

This year’s Employability and AGM will be held on the 11th of March from 5-7pm in the SEE seminar rooms behind reception and it is an event we expect everyone to make an effort to go to. You will get the chance hear advice on future careers in mining and mineral exploration. We hope to share some experiences from recent alumni to give you a taster of what is possible when you graduate.

This event will be run alongside the AGM where there will be a summary of the year’s events and it gives you a chance to make suggestions for how the chapter can be improved. It is also when the new committee will be selected.

Tuesday 16th April: Toro Gold Talk

Mark Horgan, CEO of Toro Gold will be coming to Leeds to give a talk which will be followed by a ‘Gold and Precious metals’ display. This will be held in the school’s seminar room behind reception.
